Zhezkazgan · Crew recovery

Meet a crew
minutes after they land

A Soyuz descent capsule comes down in open steppe about 147 km southeast of Zhezkazgan. We follow it in a convoy of off-road vehicles and reach the site while the crew is still being lifted out.

Landings happen twice a year, the point is known only approximately, and the window is minutes wide. So this is not an excursion, it is an operation: a night in the field, radios, a convoy, and a cross-country run after a capsule you first see under its parachute. Eight guests maximum — a bigger convoy is a slower one.
